ARANGKADA@30: A Continuing GEOrney Into Teaching, Research, Extension and Public Service
The Department of Geography celebrates 30 dynamic years of being part of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) in the University of the Philippines Diliman. In 1983, the former College of Arts and Sciences split into three distinct academic units now known as the College of Science, the College of Arts and Letters, and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. It was also during this year that the Department joined CSSP after it separated from the then Department of Geography and Geology.
With the theme “Arangkada @ 30: A Continuing GEOrney into Teaching, Research, Extension And Public Service,” the Department pushes itself to become more innovative, more competitive, and more effective in propagating Geography within and outside the spaces of the university. The Department is driven by its initiatives and accomplishments in the last three decades and aims to become a Center of Development in geography in the country.
As we face the pressures of an increasingly globalizing world, the Department of Geography will continue to take a proactive role in raising critical awareness on how daily lives are influenced by human-nature interactions and society-space relations at different scales. It will remain at the fore in empowering peoples and localities with the use of geographically informed decisions and actions.
